We believe that in the age of the internet, tech workers shouldn’t need to cram themselves into a city, spend hours and hours commuting each week, and pay thousands of dollars a month in rent to have a great job.

We’re starting a community of creative, engaged technologists in Springfield, Vermont, by pairing people with digital skills with employers looking to hire distributed workers. And to get things going, we’re giving out perks like free access to the remote working space, free coffee from a local roaster, ski passes, and newly renovated downtown apartments (with gigabit speed internet included) for $100/month.*

Why not live in an awesome place where you can actually USE a season’s ski pass next winter, go mountain biking on your lunch break, and walk to the taproom for some Vermont craft beer right after the day’s work is done?

The Distributed Working Center

Here’s how the distributed working initiative is set up: BRIC is providing a modern space with secure gigabit internet connectivity. BRIC also will train all new hires in best practices for working remotely and being part of a distributed team, provide light managerial support in the remote working center, and organize social and professional events and trainings for all remote workers.

Employees will be reporting to and working for companies based elsewhere in the United States. For the most part, managers will not be on-site, though team members and coworkers likely will. Open positions are full time, with opportunity for growth and professional development, and compensated competitively.

Here are some highlights about the space:

  • Gigabit speed internet

  • Modern space for technologists, with comfy furniture, good coffee, and plenty of screens, whiteboards, and videoconferencing equipment throughout shared and private workspaces

  • Downtown location near new establishments, like Flying Crow coffee roasters, Trout River Brewery taproom, and the Copper Fox bistro

  • Staffed by a remote working “coach” to help maintain the space and keep everyone productive

  • Social events, speakers, networking, entertainment, and music after hours

  • Quick drive to Dartmouth College (for cultural, academic, and social events), the Weston Playhouse, and Northern Stage

  • Located within a 2.5 hour drive to Boston and 4.5 from New York City, with easy bus and flight options to both and Amtrak options to New York City

  • Space is shared by busy entrepreneurs in the residential entrepreneurship program

Who are you?

  • You want an aspirational job, but want to avoid the commutes, high cost of living, and relative chaos of city life

  • You want to save thousands a year on rent (and reduced cost of living)

  • You want easy access to some of the best skiing in the east at Okemo Mountain, and backcountry skiing and mountain biking at Mount Ascutney, as well as outdoor recreation from golf to kayaking and everything in between

  • You want to make going to the farmers market for locally grown meat and produce a weekly ritual

  • You want to work with other creative people working remotely, and alongside startups taking part in the residential entrepreneurship program (with mentorship from Dartmouth College professors and national caliber VCs)

  • You want to be in on the ground floor of a multi-million dollar digital economy revolution in Springfield
